Gatorz Karting announces date change for February event at Calspeed Karting Center

September 28, 2010 (Orange, California) – As a result of a change in the expected date of the NASCAR Sprint Cup event at Auto Club Speedway, the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas has announced a date change for the second event of the 2011 season. The event at the Calspeed Karting Center at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. will now be held February 18-20, putting all Gatorz CotA events on the third weekend of each month.

The date change provides the added benefit of putting the first two Gatorz CotA events of 2011 immediately ahead of a Monday holiday (Martin Luther King Day and President’s Day) allowing for an extra day of travel for the U.S.-based school-aged drivers.

Since the early announcement of the 2011 Gatorz CotA schedule, the series has fielded a large amount of interest from teams and drivers around the country. As a sponsor of the Western Canadian Championships, the series awarded entries to the 2011 Gatorz CotA to Masters driver Blair Gautchi and MiniMax driver Mark Newson. As a result, several other drivers and teams from Western Canada have indicated interest in contesting the 2011 season, joining other Canadian teams such as Overdrive Karting and Apollo Motorsports.

“The amount of phone calls and e-mails that we’ve had from teams new to the Challenge of the Americas, at this stage, is very encouraging,” said Andy Seesemann, owner of the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas. “We are expecting additional teams from the Midwest and eastern United States, as well as from Canada and the Pacific Northwest, to join the strong west coast teams that are already competing in the series. It is already shaping up to be a very strong and competitive Gatorz Challenge of the Americas.”
